A Day in the Life
- Three, 12 hour shifts in an acute care setting.
- Patient Population
- Adults with cancer undergoing cancer treatment and palliative care and those with hematology disorders.
- Job Responsibilities
- Physical assessment, medication administration, patient education, vital signs, drip titrations, drain maintenance, ventilator support, chemotherapy infusions, blood product infusions.
- Common Medications
- Cyclophosphamide, Eribulin, Taxanes, Methotrexate, 5-fluorouracil, Capecitabine, Gemcitabine, Platinum, Vinorelbine, Anthrayclines, anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, thrombolytic agents, etc.
- Common Diagnoses
- Any kind of cancer (leukemia, lymphoma, pancreatic, breast, prostate, skin, lung, colon, etc..), hemophilia, sickle-cell anemia.
- Clinical Skills
- IV insertion, foley insertion, EKG monitor, feeding pump, glucose monitoring, drains, telemetry, ventilator maintenance, blood products infusions, chemotherapy administration (requires special certification).
